Why should I play?
First off, it's free.
Secondly, its fun.
I can without a doubt say that this is the most fun I've had playing an MMORPG in a while. The combat is phenomenal, the dungeons are great, the daily quests (chaos dungeons, guardian raids, and daily quests) all keep me coming back every day like clockwork. Also booba.
My favorite part about the game is the sheer amount of content available to just dive right into. Every single hotkey on my keyboard seems to open a new UI that you could spend weeks on alone.
The amount of content may seem overwhelming, but it's not. You don't need to worry about any of these mechanics until you have a better grasp on the game. To level up in Lost Ark all you have to do is play the main story quest. No side quests, no random escort missions, no grinding mobs until you hit the next level threshold, just follow the main story.
This made leveling up easy, fun, and enjoyable. Some games take dozens and dozens of hours just to reach level cap. The worst part about that is all the MMO try hards saying "oh the game doesn't start until you've hit level cap". bro. I cannot play the game for 60 hours before it gets fun - I can't do it, so I don't. This has been the story for the majority of MMORPGs that I've played over the years, but this game is different.
By the time the leveling part of Lost Ark started to get old for me, it was over. I had reached endgame in about ~15 hours, taking my time and enjoying every minute. There are very few opportunities to meet up with friends during the leveling process, which is unfortunate but not permanent.
Once you hit level 50 you can group up with friends to do daily hack and slashes, weekly dungeons, or even travel to different islands farming materials. You can log on every day for 3 minutes and play 'clash of clans' with your stronghold cooldowns. You can grind weekly tasks for upgrade materials or you can try to max out some gathering professions. The best part about this game is the amount of things to do.
What makes this game unique?
I know what you're thinking... isn't that what they say about every flavor of the month MMORPG like New World, FFXVI, Black Desert, Tera, Archeage?
Yes, it is what they say. I'd like to tell you that this is untrue, but it's not. The hype around Lost Ark is going to die. It has lasted way longer than the hype around some of the other titles I mentioned already, but it's not possible to maintain 1mil peak players for non Riot titles.
The game cycle seems never ending, and it truly doesn't happen too often that we get lucky enough to add a game to the prestigious list of timeless classics. Is Lost Ark that game? Probably not - but why should that make you not play it?
I'm tired of people thinking that games are a waste of time if you only get a few weeks of enjoyment out of them. Any game that makes you stay up late and spin yourself into a YouTube vortex is worth it. Any game that makes you open an ungodly amount of wiki tabs to find the perfect piece of gear you need is worth it. Any game that you can't stop talking about to anyone who will remotely listen is worth it. Lost Ark is worth it.
